Korean Government Scholarship Program for International Students

Eligibility

Undergraduate Program:
• Must be a citizen of the country to which the scholarship is offered, which also applies to the applicants’ parents
• Have graduated or will be scheduled to graduate from high school as of March 1st of the invitation year
• Must possess above 80% (out of 100%) cumulative grade point average (CGPA), or must be within the top 20% (out of 100%) in rank in high school.

Graduate Program:
• The applicant and his/her parents must hold foreign citizenships. Applicants who hold Korean citizenship are not permitted to apply for this program.
• Applicants must be under 40 years of age as of Sep. 1st, 2012 (born after Sep. 1st, 1972).
• Applicants must hold a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree as of September 1st of the selection year. Applicants who have enrolled in or graduated from a university in Korea are not eligible for the KGSP program. Specifically, applicants who have previously enrolled in or graduated from an undergraduate program, a master’s program, or a doctoral program in Korea cannot apply for this program.
• Applicants must maintain a grade point average (GPA) of at least 2.64 on a 4.0 scale, 2.80 on a 4.3 scale, 2.91 on a 4.5 scale, or grades/marks/score of 80% or higher from the previously attended institution. If the applicant does not satisfy the above GPA requirements, he/she will be ineligible to apply to this program.

Facility

Undergraduate Program:

• Airfare: A round-trip economy class ticket

• Monthly Allowance: 800,000 won per month

• Relocation (Settlement) Allowance: 200,000 won upon arrival

• Repatriation Allowance: 100,000 won upon completion of studies

• Language Training Fee : The full costs up to 1 year

• Tuition: The tuition fee up to 5 million won is exempted by the Korean Government, and if any, the tuition fee exceeding 5 million won and the entrance fee for the first semester by the host university

• Medical Insurance: The grantees will be provided with health insurance for major accidents and illnesses during their scholarship period.

 

Graduate Program:

• Airfare: A round-trip economy class ticket

• Monthly Allowance: 900,000 won per month

• Relocation (Settlement) Allowance: 200,000 won upon arrival

• Language Training Fee : The full costs up to 1 year

• Tuition: All admission fees are waived by the host institution. The full tuition is paid by NIIED.

• Medical Insurance: 20,000 won per month(limited insurance coverage) will be provided to the university for students.

• Research Allowance: 210,000 won for students in human and social sciences; 240,000 won for students in natural and mechanic sciences per semester

• Dissertation Printing Costs: 500,000 ~ 800,000 won for the costs related to a printing dissertation

 

Special Allowance for ALL students proficient in Korean language (TOPIK level 5 or 6): 100,000 won per month.

Apply Procedure

Applicants can only apply for the scholarships through the Korean Embassy in their home country or a participating Korean University. Visit the websites of Korean Embassy/Consulate in your own country.

For Undergraduate Program, the Korean Embassy or Consulate will recommend qualified candidates to NIIED by 15 November 2013. Therefore, the application deadline should fall BEFORE this date – around September to November 2013.

For the Graduate Program, the Korean Embassy or Consulate will recommend qualified candidates to NIIED by 31 March 2014. Therefore, the application deadline should fall BEFORE this date – around January to March 2014.

Eligibility

The Scholarships are open to graduates of any university within or outside of New Zealand who intend to enroll full time for a Doctorate (PhD) at Victoria University or who have commenced their doctoral study at Victoria University.

-These scholarships are awarded on academic merit and are open to New Zealand and international students in any discipline.

 

Facility

Total offer is of $23,500 stipend annually + tuition fees.

Special Note

These Scholarships are intended to encourage and support doctoral study (PhD) at Victoria University of Wellington. As part of the requirements of this Scholarship, the recipient is expected to contribute 150 hours per annum to the academic life of the School in which they undertake study. The purpose of this contribution is to provide them with an insight into the work undertaken by, and the expectations placed on, the academic community in the University. It also provides an opportunity to develop enduring relationships with the School. This contribution may be as a tutor, research assistant, laboratory demonstrator or supervisor, or teaching assistant.

Employment and Welfare Research Scholarship for PhD Students in UK

Bristol City Council offers Employment and Welfare Research Scholarship for PhD Students at University of the West of England. The application deadline is 2 September 2013. The Graduate School is offering a full-time PhD scholarship working with the Economics Research Group (Faculty of Business and Law) under the supervision of Professor Don Webber. This PhD scholarship is funded by Bristol City Council. The scholarship is available from 1 October 2013 and consists of an annual stipend of £13,760, subject to satisfactory progress for three years. UK/EU and international students can apply for this scholarship. The application deadline is 2 September 2013.

HSC/Equivalent Exam Results Published – Pass Rate 74.30%

Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) and equivalent examinations result has been published at 10 am on August 3, 2013 with an overall pass percentage of 74.30, which is 4.64% lower than the last year. This year 58,197 students have secured GPA-5. In 2012, 78.67 percent had cleared the Higher Secondary Certificate and equivalent examinations and 61,162 students had got GPA-5 grades. Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid handed over the results to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. The education minister will formally announce the results through a press briefing at his ministry at 1 pm, an official release said. The results are available at www.educationboard.gov.bd and students can get the results through SMS. To get the result, the candidate have to go to message option of mobile and type HSC(space)first 3 letters of examination board(space)HSC Roll Number(space)2013 and send to 16222. For example: HSC DHA 123456 2013 and send to 16222. A total of 10,12,581 students appeared in the exams. Of them, 5,35,662 students are male and 4,76,919 female.
